Experience
I received my undergraduate degree in sociology and psychology from the University of Oregon and my graduate degree in teaching with a focus on special education from Pacific University. My experience as a learning specialist and special education gives me valuable insight into helping students with a variety of learning needs achieve their academic potential. I feel it is a special calling to work with struggling students and help provide them with the tools necessary to become successful learners. While working in the school system, I teach individual children and small groups who need help in math, writing, and reading. I also work with classroom teachers to give them the resources and tools they need to help their students be more successful in class. After working in education for more than ten years, I have found just how fulfilling it can be to work with a diverse student population. I currently tutor a wide range of subject areas, including elementary math, reading, writing, phonics, literature, English grammar and syntax, and math. I also work with high school and college students who are struggling with their English coursework. Many of the students I work with also benefit from tutoring to improve their study skills, academic organizational skills, and test taking techniques and preparation.
